Tofu butter masala

 

Tofu is a popular food made from condensed soy milk. It has rich in calcium,iron and other micro nutrients, tofu is a versatile ingredients with many health benefits. I love tofu a lot compare to paneer. I tried different recipes with tofu and it taste amazing. Some part of the recipe is adopted from this blog.

I will post more recipes with tofu very soon. Tofu butter masala will be similar to paneer butter masala which will be like restaurant style. First tofu will be tossed with spices and mixed with onion tomato gravy and finally added fresh cream to make the curry very rich.

This tofu butter masala will be served with roti, pulav or biryani. This is one of the regular recipe I prepare very often. This curry can be prepared for any special occasions and surprise for our loved ones.

Restaurant style tofu butter masala for roti or rice.

Ingredients
  • 14 Oz oack Extra firm tofu
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 1-2 tsp Oil
For curry:
  • 1 big onion finely chopped
  • 2 Tomato finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 cup cashew
  • 1/2 tsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar optional
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 cup fresh cream
  • 1 tsp Oil
Instructions
  1. Press tofu for 15 minutes to remove moisture and cube tofu
  2. In a bowl place tofu pieces sprinkle Red chilli powder and salt, mix well and leave it for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat tawa, sprinkle some oil and place tofu pieces and fry till it becomes golden brown and keep aside.
for tofu butter masala
  1. Heat 1/2 tsp butter in a non-stick vessel and add onions and fry till it becomes translucent and add ginger garlic paste and fry till raw smell goes away.
  2. Now add tomatoes and red chilli powder, coriander powder and fry till tomatoes becomes soft.•Add cashew saute for 2 min and keep aside to cool the mixture.
  3. Add this mixture to the blender and make in to fine paste.Heat oil in a pan add jeera, onion tomato paste and ½ cup water then boil the gravy for 2-3 min.
  4. Now add garam masala, sugar, salt mix well .Add fried tofu, fresh cream and boil for 2 min.
  5. Delicious tofu butter masala is ready to serve for naan, roti, pulav or biryani.

Preparation of Tofu Butter Masala-step by step procedure

For spiced Tofu

  • Press tofu for 15 minutes to remove moisture and cube tofu.
  • In a bowl place tofu pieces sprinkle Red chilli powder and salt, mix well and leave it for 10 minutes

  • Now add garam masala, sugar, salt mix well .

  • Delicious tofu butter masala is ready to serve for naan, roti, pulav or biryani.

Note:

  • Fresh cream is optional but it gives richness to the curry.
  • If you need more spicy you can add more red chilli powder.
  • If tomatoes are red in color the curry color will be very bright.
