Gobi matar masala / Cauliflower curry

Gobi matar masala which is easy, tasty and delicious with roti or pulao. It’s tastes better than restaurant style curry and it can be prepared with everyone’s favorite vegetable gobi or cauliflower. Adding fresh cream to the curry gives richness to the curry but it’s optional.

Adding baked gobi to the curry gives amazing taste and it can be fried in pan or by baking.This recipe is adopted from here. If gobi is not available you can add fresh boiled green peas to the curry. This curry doesn’t have much ingredients and curry will be absolutely tasty. My husband likes this curry a lot so whenever I have gobi at home I make this curry and it’s always better to have homemade healthy gravy than restaurant food. Adding red colored ripened tomatoes gives very bright color to the curry. Adding kasoorimethi gives amazing flavor to the curry.I like trying different curry/gravies at home for roti and these curries are always favorite dish.

Easy, healthy and tasty gobi matar masala which tastes better than restaurant style curry and goes well with roti/pulao.

Ingredients
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 tomato (chopped)
  • 1/2 cup green peas (boiled)
  • 5-6 cashew
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • 2-3 red chilli
  • 1/2 inch ginger
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp kasoorimethi
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1-2 tsp oil
  • salt to taste
For gobi masala
  • 1 cup gobi
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp olive oil
Instructions
  1. Pre heat oven at 350 degree Fahrenheit.

  2. Boil water with little salt and soak gobi for 5-10 min.

  3. Add gobi in a bowl add red chilli powder, garam masala, salt, olive oil and mix well. Spread gobi on baking tray .

  4. Bake gobi for 10-15 minutes till it turns to golden brown.

  5. Soak cashew and poppy seeds in 1 tsp of water for 20 minutes.

  6. Heat oil in a pan add red chilli, ginger, garlic and fry for 2 minutes. 

  7. Add chopped onions and fry till it becomes translucent.Now add chopped tomatoes and saute till it becomes soft. Swich off the stove and cool the mixture.

  8. Add onion tomato mixture in a blender along with soaked cashew, poppy seeds and grind in to fine paste.

  9. Heat oil in a pan add jeera, onion tomato ground paste and saute for few seconds.

  10. Then add 1/2 cup water boil for 2-3 minutes. Add garam masala, kasoorimethi, salt mix well and saute for few seconds.

  11. Add baked gobi, boiled green peas and boil the curry for 3-4 minutes in medium flame.

  12. Gobi muttar masala is ready to serve with roti or pulao.

Preparation of gobi matar masala – Step by step procedure

  • Pre heat oven at 350 degree Fahrenheit.

  • Boil the curry for 3-4 minutes in medium flame.

  • Gobi muttar masala is ready to serve with roti or pulao.

Note:

  • Adding fresh cream gives richness to the curry but it’s optional. It can be added in final step after adding kasoorimethi.
  • If you feel curry is not spicy you can add more red chilli powder according to you taste.
  • Gobi can be fried by baking or in a pan.
  • Instead of gobi you can add more boiled green peas and make green peas matar masala.
