Dahi bhalla – North Indian chaat recipe

Dahi vada is also known as dahi bhalla in Punjabi. It is very popular snack in India and prepared by soaking vadas in thick dahi and few spices are added as toppings.

Dahi bhalla is kind of chaat recipe which is delicious and tasty😋. Chaat chutneys are added as toppings which gives amazing taste to the dish. For best results vadas are soaked for couple of hours before serving. Few spicy powders and sugar is added to the curd to enhance the flavor of the chaat👌 . To enhance the richness to the dish add few pieces of cashew, raisins to the batter. Dahi bhalla chaat is popular north indian recipe served as evening snacks and it will be fabulous.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 1/2 cup cashew chopped
  • salt to taste
  • oil to deep fry
  • water as required
Curd mixture
  • 1 cup thick curd
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powdere
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • salt to taste
Toppings
  • Chaat chutneys as required
  • red chilli powder
  • garam masala
Instructions
  1. Soak urad dal for 4-5 hours.

  2. Grind in a blender with little water and make in to fine paste. (Batter should be in medium thickness) then add salt mix well.

  3. Heat oil in a pan to deep fry.

  4. Take batter and place cashew in to the batter and drop in to medium hot oil .

  5. Fry till it becomes golden brown color.

  6. Once it cools down. Take water in a bowl add 1tsp of salt and soak urad dal vada for 20 min.

  7. Squeeze the vada and place in to a wide plate.

Curd mixture
  1. Take thick curd in a bowl add red chilli powder, cumin powder, sugar, salt mix well.

  2. Add few tsp of water if curd is too thick. Place in a refrigerator for few minutes.

Toppings
  1. Place soaked vadas in a plate add curd mixture to all vadas.

  2. Now add few tsp of sweet chutney and green chutney as toppings.

  3. Finally sprinkle little red chilli powder and garam masala.

  4. Serve cool dahi bhalla chaat for snacks.

Note:

  • Don’t drop vada batter in hot oil. Oil should be in medium heat.
  • Adjust the quantity of red chilli powder accordingly.
  • Cool curd mixture will give amazing taste to the dish.
  • You can use homemade chaat chutneys or ready made chaat chutneys.
